Civex is a civics education organisation by young people, for young people.

Leadership

Our founder and managing director is Sean Van Der Wielen. Sean has had an interest in politics from a young age, which has continued into adulthood.

He has previously participated in Rotary's annual Adventure in Citizenship program and the Western Australian Youth Parliament.

He previously served as a committee member of the Bunbury Youth Advisory Council from November 2017 to November 2021. He was acting Youth Mayor for the City of Bunbury from December 2019 to March 2020 and permanently served in the role from December 2020 to December 2021.

Want to join the team?

As a startup organisation, we are constantly looking for volunteers to help expand our reach. To apply to be a volunteer, just send us an email with the following information:

  • Full name, age, location

  • Why you are interested in joining the Civex team

  • Any previous volunteering and/or leadership experience

  • Any current or past affiliations you may have with political parties, campaigns or action groups (this will be your declaration of interests).

  • Whether you have a current WA Working with Childrens Check

Keeping neutral

While we welcome volunteers, we also seek to remain fearlessly independent from any political party, campaign or action group. We still accept those with politicial affiliations, but those who do must abide by these conditions:

  1. You must declare your conflicts of interest to us and to your audience prior to any presentation.

  2. You cannot hold a leadership position within your chosen political cause and volunteer for Civex at the same time. A cooling off period of six months applies between the loss of a leadership position and being eligible to volunteer for Civex.

  3. Anyone with active or recent (in the past 12 months) involvement with a political cause will be automatically blocked from obtaining any senior leadership position within Civex.

  4. If you share your personal opinions, you must make it clear that you are not speaking on behalf of the organisation.

  5. Once an election is called, any volunteers with active or recent involvement in a political cause will be blocked from volunteering for Civex until the day after election day.

If you are unsure about what any of the above means for you, please contact us at sean@civexed.com
